Inspired by D&G

Perhaps my favorite ever collection is the final collection for D&G shown Spring Summer 2012 RTW… I have looked at it close to twenty times and it’s still love…

Karmen Pedaru opened the show how heavenly

Clashing of prints is insanely good

Mustard yellow very yum

Doesn’t Constance have the worlds best eyes and the hair and makeup at the show was lovely

Last night I party hopped between two 18th’s and I thought I should wear something festive, yet practical for party hopping, I was inspired by this collection. I wore a long Camilla but tied it up. Seeing as we can’t all magically whip out outfits made of scarves a whimsical caftan is a good way to take this trend from the Runway to real life. Slash whilst a Camilla caftan may at first seem a little on the expensive side, they are seriously so practical and can be worn numerous ways, it should really be classified as an investment!

I brought turquoise and orange ribbon to specifically match my outfit, yes I am very materialistic.

Camilla has the best detailing, a little glitz goes a long way.

I wore these shoes with it, I brought them in South Africa, aren’t they just Africa in a shoe?

Things we spotted…

There was a few trend prevalent across many of the Bris fashionistas last night, here is what we learnt and saw.

1. You are apparently no one unless you adorn something from the latest Sass andBide collection, it is a rather fabulous one.

2. Straight colour blocking is out and more subtle blocking with bohemian touches is in, think Camillaish, St Bartish if you get my gist.

3. The fashion director of Marie Claire’s bag is a total must have. They are by the Cambridge Satchel company and are around $130. Hers was bright pink but any are perfect

4. In this awkward weather keep the minnie skirts and dresses but add a boot with a thicker heel (not a wedge a little to chunky and 2011) suede is lovely. These ones from Jules and Roc are pretty great

5. A few girls also had nail polish like below, with the little touch of sparkle, kitsch nail polish is so fun I had to do it myself..

James Street Up Late

Was too fabulous for words. Glamorous people roamed the street carrying gift bags full of macaroons and other lovely things. I think it is without a doubt the highlight of the Brisbane Fashion Year.

Unfortunately I have a blackberry which is not only a mere two months old but is also broken so unfortunately could not take any pics. It did not hit me until I arrived back home that I could have taken the Nikon but would have been to clever! I have raided Jackie Frank’s Twitter she had some lovely ones.

The Frockshop window, Ahhhh-mazing

Outside Camilla, love it!

As I am traveling soonish I am madly saving every dollar so did not purchase anything, I deserve a medal or something for that! My sister did however get me this little friendship bracelet, I am just a little obsessed with it, we got it from Frockshop

It’s by Ettika all their pieces are so yummy!

And it fits in perfectly with the usual stack I adorn.

With my sister, I am on the right. My attire, the shirt is vintage, shorts are One Teaspoon, the jacket was made in Thailand, necklace Sistaco and the shoes are Marni

The next one whenever it may be could not and should not be missed!

Frosty business

Today was the first day I could wear jeans

Reflecting on the weather they probably weren’t necessary but yeah I am a Queenslander which is a good enough excuse!

I picked the bright Fuchsia J Brands as I thought they best marked the occasion.

I wore them with a ye’old Sass and Bide orange singlet and a vintage Diane Von Furstenberg silk scarf, I am so in love with scarves. My teal fedora also made its second appearance.

Tonight the James St Up Late event is on hosted by Marie Claire, Camilla caftan’s Camilla will be there, along with Sass and Bide’s Heidi Middleton, Camilla and Marc’s Camilla and the boys from Ksubi I wonder if they will bring Bambi with them? I strongly doubt it but here’s for hoping! The last up late evening was beyond fabulous, everyone in Bris seemed to pull out their most stylish attires so it was a very lovely site. I think I am most excited for the Frockshop macaroons how scrumptious do they look!

Also gals and pals it begins at five!

What actually happens Part 1

What actually happens on a photo shoot:

I just realized that in my last post I briefly referenced that I work on a few photo shoots but I have never actually explained these occasions in any great detail. I know prior to experiencing a photo shoot for myself, I was quite unaware of what actually went on. All I knew was what Rachel Zoe, Americas Next Top Model and the September Issue had taught me and they are very glamourous versions of the truth! So time to share just a few little pieces of goss!

The days before…
Leading up to the photo shoot the stylist is either given a certain theme for the shoot or must themselves decides on a certain theme. Many different stores are then raided and looks are pulled. Being the intern usually you carry many garment bags around all these shops, which really helps to build your arm muscles. Last week I carried around massive hat boxes, I felt like the assistants in ‘The Devil Wear Prada’ carrying all of the bags, except I was a lot happier. It’s incredibly fun picking looks as it is like picking a dream wardrobe without having to pay, shame you cannot keep it though. I actually was surprised with how difficult it is though to find just what yo are looking for, the stylist have to be incredibly creative with a lot of what they are given or select.

The Day of…
All the pieces are carted to the studio or location and the fun begins. Interns must ensure all the clothes are hung up neatly and in order and all the shoes and accessories are on display. Tip 1, coat hangers should always be facing the same way and in the correct order! Once this is done each piece of clothing must be steamed so that it is beyond perfect for the model. Holding and using a steamer is like using a weapon as you can seriously kill the clothes, this is very dramatic I know but I get seriously freaked when using it. Shoes also have to be dealt with, the soles are covered with paper and then tape to make sure the soles are not damaged by models elegantly gallivanting everywhere! Outfits are then chosen by the stylist who seems to make them look 50 times cooler than you could have expected.
Whilst all this is occurring the model arrives. Not only have all models won the gene lottery, but they all have incredible style, it helps when you have never ending legs and perfect hair to pull it off, but still they all rock up looking fabulous. The hair and makeup begins for them, cue all time low self esteem for myself. The model then usually proves she’s also a lovely girl and we all fall in love with her a little.

She then slips into her first look of the shoot, and we all hopefully become stunned with how amazing it looks. My favorite model quote is from when I was helping a model get into the heaviest most amazing Ellery crystal top, I said to her I didn’t want her hair to get caught and she said ‘who cares that shit grows back anyway’ as she continued to pull it on.

The photographer then summons all the crew to the ideal spot they have chosen. The stylist is constantly moving the outfit to ensure it looks perfect and it’s all action from then on.

This continues for the day and then eventually all the clothes have to be itemized ready to be returned! This is actually a very brief version but any more detail would put people to sleep I feel.

Loving Lover

A couple of weeks ago I got to play on this photo shoot, pulling the looks was fun and seeing them on the gorgeous model Avril was just fabulous! She honestly has to have the worlds best legs, I saw a pic of her in the latest Marie Claire as well, looking ever so chic.

One of the looks we picked was by Lover. Seriously how good is Lover, everywhere you look it is there, and each piece seems to be a must have. The little teal outfit is theirs.

I am also obsessed with this whole outfit. Pajama chic is very in but love how these shorts are a more subtle way of wearing it.

Please go drool over all their pieces at I most certainty have been.

Yellow and mellow

I still do not have my dream Oscar De La Renta dress. I have been obsessing over it for at least four months now and I am still no closer to owning it than when I first laid eyes on it and was over whelmed by its sheer beauty..

I am however finding yellow inspiration all over the place, this Sunday evening

At the dinner table

In my sisters incredibly cute Collette dress, doesn’t it look swell with the coral nail polish, who knew what we did without shellac nail polish?

Sahh obsessed..

The current love of my life made its first appearance yesterday…

Gucci did it first

Kate followed

As did Florence

Mine saw the Sunshine for the first time yesterday, it was a very exciting moment for all… I wore it to the markets, I feel it’s a very market appropriate piece.

It was $20 from Rubi shoes I love bargains. I paired it with an Alexander McQueen silk scarf among other pieces, being a student I have mastered the art of high low dressing. And isn’t it very similar to the Gucci Fall 2011 RTW hat, just obviously not quite as pretty…

The next winter must have I am currently crushin’ on is long leather gloves, not having much luck finding them though..

Fine models and feathers

A couple of days ago The David Jones racing parade was on and it was utterly fabulous. I had the pleasure of dressing Samantha Harris and now officially love her, she is just so nice, hilarious and is beyond stunning. Firstly she gave me her mascara, secondly she filled me on Miranda and Orlando and thirldly she said if she ever does any more shows in town I have to be her dresser…. My life actually is complete.

Montana I didn’t get to speak to for as long but she seemed like a great gal as well. My epiphany of the day is that models are all stunning that they have nothing to worry about and are therefore down to earth lovely girls, this is a very generalized statement I know but it’s just what I have found! (proof of how stunning these 6 models are can be seen below)

I wore some gold one teaspoon shorts (love anything gold), a skull top from Japan I think, a cotton on silk thrown over the top which was literally cheaper than my lunch, a sistaco necklace and some Wittner shoes

Superly Fab

Today I was fortunate to have a fab day interning. I wore these super comfy sparkly shorts from Seed, a vintage silk top, little vintage Prada piece and just some Sportsgirl boots.

I have done a little interning over the year. I was thrown in the deep end with the first parade I helped with as it was just casually Chanel and I really had know idea what to do. I didn’t sink though (thank goodness!) and being surrounded by Chanel perfection was possibly the fashion highlight of my life. I have also done a few photoshoots here and there which are always fab!

Today we pulled outfits for a very glam parade (and not just glam for Brisbane but glam just in general) happening later this week. It will feature feathers, hats, gloves and the glamazons below… I am predicting that my self esteem may be at an all time low!
